Nepal Multipurpose Cooperative Exports Tea worth Rs 114.3 Million to India
The Nepal Multipurpose Cooperative (NMC) has successfully exported tea worth Rs 114.3 million to India, marking a significant milestone for the cooperative. In total, NMC exported 364,044 kilograms of tea, showcasing the growing demand for Nepali tea in international markets. Rabindra Pandey, the business chief of the cooperative, highlighted that the organization has focused on producing high-quality tea with the active involvement of its farmer-members. “We purchase tea leaves directly from the farmers, process them in our factories, and ensure the quality of the final product,” Pandey said. The cooperative operates three tea processing factories in Suryodaya and Maijogmai in Ilam, as well as in Mechinagar, Jhapa. These facilities are central to the cooperative’s efforts to process and package premium teas, including Black Tea, Orthodox Tea, and Green Tea, all under the NMC brand. NMC currently supports 350 affiliated farmers and has invested over Rs 130 million into the tea business. The cooperative has also created 52 direct jobs, contributing to the local economy and promoting sustainable agricultural practices.
