Inter Milan Crushes Verona 5-0, Milan and Juventus Draw 0-0

In 2020, Atalanta made a remarkable run to the Champions League quarterfinals as Bergamo became the epicenter of the coronavirus pandemic. Last season, they stunned Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League final, ending their 51-game unbeaten streak. Now, Atalanta is surprising once again, topping Serie A after a 3-1 win at Parma, their seventh consecutive league victory.

Coach Gian Piero Gasperini, who almost left the club at the end of last season, now has the chance to lead the team to their first-ever Serie A title. However, the race is tight, with Atalanta level on points with second-place Inter Milan, who routed Hellas Verona 5-0. Napoli also has a chance to reclaim the lead.

Atalanta’s 34 goals lead Serie A, with Mateo Retegui scoring his 12th of the season, while Ederson and Ademola Lookman also found the net. Lookman’s goal came after two disallowed strikes, and Retegui’s fourth header of the season put him atop Europe’s five major leagues in that category. Gasperini was sent off for protesting but was smiling after the match.

Elsewhere, Inter Milan, missing top striker Lautaro Martinez, won 5-0 at Verona, with Marcus Thuram scoring twice. Inter’s only loss this season was to Milan in the derby.
