China Unveils Plan to Reduce Food Loss and Waste by 2027
China has announced a comprehensive action plan aimed at reducing food loss and waste, with the goal of establishing a more effective long-term mechanism by the end of 2027. The plan, issued by the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the State Council, includes improving the statistical system, standards, and indication systems for food loss and waste. Key objectives of the plan include reducing food loss rates during production, storage, transportation, and processing to below the average international levels by 2027. It also targets significant reductions in per capita food waste in catering industries, government canteens, school canteens, and enterprise canteens. To achieve these goals, the plan focuses on increasing national awareness about food conservation, promoting anti-waste actions in the catering industry and public service areas, and strengthening the collection of data on food loss and waste. The initiative is part of China’s broader efforts to curb food waste and promote sustainability.Top of Form
