Rishabh Pant became the most expensive player in IPL history after being sold for $3.2 million to Lucknow Super Giants in the ongoing IPL mega auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The former Delhi Capitals captain surpassed Shreyas Iyer, who was bought by Punjab Kings for $3.18 million on the first day of the auction. Both players are expected to captain their respective franchises in the upcoming IPL season, set to begin on March 14. In other notable moves, Delhi Capitals purchased former Lucknow captain Lokesh Rahul for $1.67 million, while all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer was sold to Kolkata Knight Riders for $2.83 million after a bidding war. Gujarat Titans secured Jos Buttler for $1.88 million and fast bowler Kagiso Rabada for $1.28 million. Mitchell Starc, who was bought by Delhi for $1.40 million, saw a significant drop in price compared to last year’s $2.98 million deal with Kolkata Knight Riders.
