KMC Launches Air Pollution Monitoring Devices to Combat Air Quality Issues
Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has begun installing air pollution monitoring devices at 18 locations across the metropolis to better assess and manage air quality. The initiative was launched on Tuesday, with Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol inaugurating the first device at KMC’s central office in Kathmandu Plaza. The installation of these devices is part of a collaboration between the KMC’s Environmental Management Department and the Partnership for Healthy Cities. The aim is to gather real-time data on air pollution levels throughout the city. Deputy Mayor Dangol emphasized that the initiative is crucial for evaluating the effectiveness of KMC’s ongoing programs to reduce air pollution. She highlighted various measures, including the “Dust-Free Metropolis” program, green preservation efforts, and car-free Saturdays in Handigaun. Additionally, KMC has implemented waste categorization and introduced environmental education in school curricula. Dangol concluded by noting that the partnership would help institutionalize these environmental achievements for the long-term betterment of the city.
