Number of Mountain Climbers Declines in Autumn Season, Department of Tourism Reports

The number of climbers obtaining permits for mountain expeditions this autumn has seen a significant decrease compared to last year, according to the Department of Tourism (DoT). This season, only 2,245 climbers’ secured permits, a sharp drop from the 4,407 permits issued during the same period last year.

The climbers, including 1,943 men and 301 women, are permitted to scale 47 different peaks. So far, 543 men and 82 women have successfully reached the summits. In contrast, last year, 1,071 men and 87 women climbers completed their ascents.

Kali Bahadur Bhujel, Director and Spokesperson for the DoT, acknowledged the decrease but emphasized that mountain climbing is a challenging endeavor requiring strong determination. He reassured that the number of climbers has arrived as projected and remains satisfactory, with expectations for a rise in climbers during the upcoming spring season.
