Fire at Private Hospital in Tamil Nadu Kills Six, Dozens Injured
A devastating fire at a private hospital in southern India has claimed the lives of at least six people and left more than two dozen others injured, police confirmed on Friday. The fire broke out late Thursday night at a hospital in Dindigul, Tamil Nadu, and spread rapidly from the reception area on the ground floor to other parts of the building. The six victims were found unconscious inside a hospital lift, according to the Press Trust of India. Police superintendent A. Pradeep reported that around 30 people sustained injuries, though all are currently in stable condition. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. This tragic incident follows a series of similar fires in India, including the recent fire that killed 10 newborns in a hospital in Uttar Pradesh and a deadly blaze at a children’s hospital in New Delhi earlier this year, which killed six infants. In May, at least 27 people, including several children, were killed in a fire at a packed amusement park arcade in Gujarat. Building fires have become all too common in India due to inadequate firefighting infrastructure and widespread neglect of safety regulations. Authorities are under increasing pressure to improve fire safety standards across the country.
