13 Killed in Collision between Indian Navy Speedboat and Passenger Ferry off Mumbai Coast

A tragic accident occurred off the Mumbai coast today when an Indian Navy speedboat, undergoing engine trials, lost control and collided with a passenger ferry. The navy confirmed that 13 people were killed in the crash, including a naval officer and two employees from the original equipment manufacturer involved in the boat’s trial.

The incident took place around 4:00 PM when the navy craft, carrying five people, struck the ferry, “Neel Kamal,” which was en route from Gateway of India to Elephanta Island with 110 passengers on board. The crash resulted in the deaths of ten ferry passengers, while the remaining 102 passengers, along with the two survivors from the navy craft, were rescued.

A video of the collision, captured from the ferry, has surfaced, showing the harrowing moment of impact. The navy expressed condolences and stated that investigations into the cause of the accident are underway.
