52 Killed, 65 Injured in Two Bus Accidents on Kabul-Kandahar Highway in Ghazni, Afghanistan

Two fatal bus accidents involving a fuel tanker and a truck on a major highway in central Afghanistan resulted in the deaths of 52 people and left 65 others injured, according to Taliban government officials. The accidents occurred late Wednesday on the Kabul-Kandahar Highway in Ghazni province, with one bus colliding with a fuel tanker near Shahbaz village and another bus hitting a truck in the Andar district.

Zabihullah Mujahid, the chief government spokesman, expressed deep regret over the incident, confirming the tragic toll. Rescue teams swiftly responded to the scene, transporting the injured to local hospitals, with some reported to be in serious condition. The cause of the accidents remains under investigation.

Traffic accidents are frequent in Afghanistan, often attributed to poorly maintained roads, reckless driving, and a lack of proper regulation. Similar incidents have occurred in recent months, underscoring the ongoing safety challenges on the country’s highways.
