Hamas Stalls Ceasefire Agreement with New Demands, Ongoing Talks in Doha Show Progress

Hamas has accused Israel of delaying a potential ceasefire agreement by imposing new conditions for its withdrawal from Gaza. These conditions, including a prisoner exchange and the return of displaced Palestinians, have stalled a deal that was reportedly close to being finalized.

Ongoing negotiations, led by Qatari, Egyptian, and U.S. diplomats, are being seriously pursued in Doha, where progress has been reported despite the complications. The conflict, which began with a Hamas attack on Israel’s southern border on October 7, 2023, has resulted in around 1,200 Israeli deaths and 250 hostages taken. International mediation efforts continue to work towards a ceasefire and the exchange of prisoners as tensions remain high.
