CGC News Reporter January 2, 2025

Several Sri Lankan government institutions have fallen victim to cyber-attacks, including the official YouTube channel of the Sri Lanka Police Department and the website of the Department of Government Printing, according to local police reports. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) K.B. Manathunga confirmed that the YouTube channel had been hacked, while the website’s data was altered during the attack.

The Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Readiness Team (SLCERT) and the police are actively investigating the incidents. SLCERT had recently issued a warning about the vulnerability of government websites to cyber threats, announcing plans to educate government employees on how to respond to such attacks.

Investigations are ongoing to identify the perpetrators behind the cyber breaches.
