A new poll shows that most people in Greenland do not want their island to become part of the United States. President Donald Trump has suggested that Greenland, which is rich in natural resources, could join the U.S. for “international security” reasons.

However, 85% of Greenlanders said they were against the idea, while 6% supported it, and 9% were unsure. The poll was conducted by the Verian agency and published in Danish and Greenlandic newspapers.

Political expert Kasper Moller Hansen noted that this was the first poll to ask a representative group of Greenlanders about the issue.
