Severe flooding has hit the town of Redon in northwestern France after Storm Herminia brought heavy rains earlier this week. Many parts of Redon, located between two rivers, a canal, and marshes, have been submerged since Wednesday. On Thursday, the Vilaine River’s water level was just below the record high from historic floods in 2001, according to the official alert body Vigicrues. Although the river had been expected to rise further, it remained steady by Thursday evening. Local official Amaury de Saint-Quentin said, “Things are settling down,” as the water slowly started to drain away.
