India Threatens Strong Crackdown on Illegal Migration after US Deportation Flight

India’s Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar announced a “strong crackdown” on illegal migration, following the deportation of 104 Indian nationals from the United States aboard a military flight. The deportation is part of President Donald Trump’s sweeping immigration reforms, which have led to the arrest and removal of thousands of undocumented migrants across the US since his inauguration.

Jaishankar emphasized that it is the responsibility of all countries to repatriate their citizens found living illegally abroad, reaffirming India’s commitment to addressing illegal migration. The crackdown comes amid broader US efforts to overhaul immigration policies, which are expected to affect approximately 11 million undocumented individuals.

The deportations are the latest in a series of actions under Trump’s administration aimed at tightening immigration controls and addressing illegal immigration from several countries, including India. Jaishankar’s statement in parliament signals India’s resolve to act firmly against the issue, as it continues to engage with the US on migration-related concerns.
