In a speech on Thursday, Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian reaffirmed that his country has never sought to develop nuclear weapons. Speaking at a ceremony in Tehran marking the 46th anniversary of Iran’s 1979 Islamic Revolution, Pezeshkian addressed a crowd that included foreign ambassadors and international representatives. He emphasized that Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, had made the country’s stance clear through a religious decree (fatwa) explicitly forbidding the pursuit of nuclear weapons. “We do not seek nuclear weapons,” Pezeshkian said, aiming to reassure both the domestic audience and the international community about Iran’s commitment to peace and security.
