Judge Blocks Musk’s Team from Accessing Treasury Data

A U.S. judge has ordered a halt to Elon Musk’s government team from accessing sensitive personal and financial information of millions of Americans stored by the Treasury Department. The emergency ruling, issued on Saturday, restricts Musk’s team, which is part of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), from using Treasury data until a hearing on February 14.

The decision follows a legal challenge from attorneys general in 19 states who argue that the expansion of access to Treasury data by Musk’s team violated the law. Musk, despite not being a federal employee, is leading efforts to reduce government costs, and his team has been accused of improperly accessing the department’s information. The judge also ordered that any data downloaded since January 20, 2021, be immediately destroyed.
