US Judge Blocks Musk’s Team from Accessing Sensitive Treasury Data

A US judge has temporarily blocked Elon Musk’s government reform team from accessing personal and financial data of millions of Americans stored at the Treasury Department. The ruling, issued on Saturday by US District Judge Paul A. Engelmayer, restricts access to these records for political appointees and other government employees working outside the Treasury Department.

The judge’s order will stay in effect until a hearing on February 14. The ruling also requires that anyone who accessed Treasury Department data since President Donald Trump’s inauguration must immediately delete any copies of the material.

Musk, known as the world’s richest person, is leading President Trump’s efforts to cut government costs through a new department called the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). The case was brought by attorneys general from 19 states, who claim that the administration broke the law by allowing Musk’s team to access sensitive Treasury records.
