Lebanon Forms New Government amid Economic Crisis and Reconstruction Efforts
Lebanon’s new Prime Minister, Nawaf Salam, formed the country’s first full government since 2022 on Saturday. President Joseph Aoun accepted the resignation of the former caretaker government and signed a decree to officially create the new government. In his speech, Salam vowed to restore trust between citizens and the state, as well as improve Lebanon’s relations with the Arab world and the international community. He emphasized that reforms are essential to solve the country’s ongoing economic crisis. Salam also promised to continue the ceasefire agreement that ended the recent war with Israel and Hezbollah, and to work on rebuilding areas affected by the conflict. The new government, which includes 24 ministers, is split equally between Christian and Muslim sects. This comes at a crucial time, as Lebanon is still facing severe economic challenges and is working to rebuild its southern region and maintain security along its borders.
