Swiss voters on Sunday overwhelmingly rejected a proposal to include a commitment to respect the planet’s natural resources in the country’s constitution.

According to a forecast by the gfs.bern polling firm, around 70% of voters opposed the proposal, aligning with previous predictions. The proposal, supported by leftist voters and ecologists, aimed to limit natural resource use to the Earth’s capacity.

However, the government and right-wing parties opposed it, arguing that it could harm economic growth. Greens’ leader Margot Cauderna expressed disappointment, stating the vote could have helped link ecology and social accessibility.
