Lebanese President Threatens to Punish Attackers Following UN Peacekeeper Wounded
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun threatened to punish attackers following a United Nations peacekeeper was wounded in an attack on a UN peacekeeping convoy. The peacekeeper, outgoing deputy commander of the peacekeeping force Major General Chok Bahadur Dhakal, was injured in an attack that happened on Friday when a UN vehicle was torched in protests. President Aoun condemned the attack and promised that security forces would adopt strict measures against anyone who seeks to create instability and peace in the country. The Lebanese army has already promised to take stern action against the culprits. The attack was carried out when Hezbollah sympathizers were sealing roads to the Beirut airport protesting against a verdict that barred two Iranian planes from landing in Lebanon. The Lebanese interior minister has called an emergency meeting to consider the matter. The Lebanese judiciary has also ordered an investigation into the attack.
