Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann Agains Deportation Flights to Amritsar, Describes It a Conspiracy
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann strongly opposed the Centre’s action to bring back deported Indians at Amritsar airport, describing it as a conspiracy to defame Punjab. Mann criticized the BJP-led Union government, saying that it was running a campaign of calumny against Punjab in spite of the state’s enormous contributions to India. Mann questioned why deportation flights were being sent to Amritsar when there were other airports, and was worried about the security of the region, which is near a hostile neighbor. He also questioned Punjabis being targeted unfairly, claiming that the government was biased against them. The CM also criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a “self-styled world leader” who failed to protect Indians’ rights. Mann asserted that the government could have repatriated the deported people with dignity by sending its own plane, rather than humiliating them. He alleged that the Centre’s policies were retrograde, hence the BJP begrudges Punjabis.
