China on Wednesday unveiled a new high-power ship engine in Shanghai. The 64,500-kilowatt engine, designed by China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited (CSSC), is fueled mainly by methanol, making the engine more efficient and green by reducing carbon dioxide emissions by over 7.5% compared with traditional diesel engines.

This new engine is designed with advanced technology, including a digital control system, a flexible dual-fuel injection system, and 5G connectivity. They make the engine energy-saving, emission-reducing, and maintenance-cost-reducing. The engine will be used on a giant 16,000-TEU container ship for the first time, starting its commercial use.
