Trump Suspends Military Aid to Ukraine in Row with Zelenskyy

US President Donald Trump has decided to put on hold military aid to Ukraine, fueling his exchange of blows with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Trump will put on hold hundreds of millions of dollars’ worth of arms and ammunition until Ukraine sits down for what he terms “good-faith negotiations” on peace. This follows a public altercation between the two leaders at the White House on Friday, and Trump’s recent post on Truth Social, in which he accused Zelenskyy of never wanting peace as long as he has U.S. support.

The move is a severe blow to the Ukrainian cause against Russia’s invasion. Though the U.S. Congress had already signed off on $86 billion of military aid to Ukraine, Trump’s request to suspend further assistance is a sharp U-turn in American policy. The U.S. had planned sending monthly packages of military aid totalling approximately $920 million this year.

Trump’s own recent comments also attacked Zelenskyy for stating the war could still be far from over, with Trump insisting that the war must complete shortly. He cautioned that any leader who was not willing to negotiate might not be taken seriously for long.
