Former President Donald Trump addressed Congress on Tuesday, saying the “American Dream is unstoppable” and presenting a vision for the future that is ambitious. In his first major speech since returning to office, Trump, with close friend Elon Musk seated in the audience, boasted of his accomplishments in the first six weeks of his presidency. He vowed to continue working toward his agenda of reforming the U.S. government and putting an end to the war in Ukraine, despite challenges ahead.

Trump boasted that his administration had accomplished more than most presidents in four years, with planned sweeping changes to the economy, government, and foreign policy. He also promised to deal with immigration, including mass deportations, and touted a plan to bring out all the hostages from Gaza.

But Trump’s approach has raised concerns. His trade wars are causing consternation among global markets, and his diplomatic reorientation toward Russia has come under fire. And some early polls suggest that his drastic cuts in government spending and failure to address inflation may hurt his popularity.

The address set the tone for a divisive political environment, and Democratic lawmakers have said they would resist Trump’s agenda. Elissa Slotkin, a Michigan Senator, will deliver the Democratic response to his address.
