Florida Man Stuffs Shoplifted $769,500 Earrings into Stomach Prior to Arrest
Jaythan Gilder, a 32-year-old Florida man, has been charged with stealing earrings worth more than $769,000 from an Orlando Tiffany & Co. store last week. Gilder had deceived workers into thinking that he represented a professional athlete and they exposed him to the top-of-the-line jewelry. He then stole the earrings and took off running from the store. When subsequently arrested by the police, they discovered him swallowing several objects suspected to be the stolen earrings. An x-ray later confirmed the existence of a foreign body in his stomach. Gilder also allegedly attempted to steal a diamond ring but dropped it while trying to escape. Police indicated that Gilder has a history of shoplifting at Tiffany & Co. and has 48 arrest warrants against him in Colorado. He was charged with robbery and grand theft, but he is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
