US to Resume Military Aid to Ukraine after Ceasefire Proposal
The United States is set to resume military aid and intelligence sharing with Ukraine after Kyiv indicated that it was willing to agree to a 30-day ceasefire in the conflict with Russia. The decision was made following a meeting between US and Ukrainian officials in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday. Ukraine is ready to discuss a US proposal of an immediate 30-day ceasefire, which can be extended if both sides agree. The ceasefire would encompass all areas, including missiles and drones, and along the entire front line, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said. US President Donald Trump has expressed hopes that Russia will accept the proposal for a ceasefire, with discussions set to take place later this week. The US also consented to resume security assistance to Ukraine, which had been suspended due to a disagreement involving an agreement on rare earth minerals. The joint statement of the US and Ukraine also made clear that the agreement on mineral resources would proceed, which would enhance the security and economy of Ukraine. No specific security guarantees, as requested by Zelenskyy, were included in the statement, however. US officials now wait to see how Russia will respond to the offer of a ceasefire, with the Secretary of State Marco Rubio stating the ball was in the Russian court. Simultaneously, Ukraine launched its most extensive drone attack on Moscow, hitting an oil refinery and a facility in the Oryol region, killing at least three and shutting down Moscow’s airports.
