Global electric vehicle (EV) sales rose 49% in February 2025 from a year earlier to 1.2 million units, research firm Rho Motion said, with growth partially influenced by the timing of Chinese New Year holidays.

China led the EV sales with a 76% year-on-year increase in February, while Europe witnessed a 19% increase. Despite the European Union’s tariffs on Chinese-made EVs, which affected sales of Chinese brands like MG, Tesla, and Nio, Chinese company BYD saw its market share rise. Total sales in Europe rose 19%, while Germany saw a 40% increase in the first two months of 2025.

North America’s EV sales grew by 17%, but U.S. policy may affect future growth. Just across the border, Mexico’s EV market more than doubled as imports of Chinese-made EVs skyrocketed.
