Astronomers have identified the largest and most distant water reservoir ever discovered in the universe, located 12 billion light-years away. The massive water supply, in the form of vapor, contains 140 trillion times the volume of all of Earth’s oceans and is situated around a supermassive black hole. This black hole, approximately 20 billion times the mass of our sun, lies at the center of a quasar named APM 08279+5255. The quasar emits an astonishing amount of energy—equivalent to the power output of a thousand trillion suns—making it one of the most intense sources of energy in the universe.
