Kathmandu Mayor Mohan Bahadur Basnet Suspended Following Corruption and Money Laundering Charges

Mohan Bahadur Basnet, the mayor of Kathmandu’s Nagarjun Municipality, has been automatically suspended from his position after the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) filed corruption and money laundering charges against him.

The CIAA filed separate cases at the Special Court on Sunday, triggering his suspension under Section 33 of the Prevention of Corruption Act and Section 27 of the Asset (Money) Laundering Prevention Act. According to the law, individuals accused of both offenses are automatically suspended until a final decision is reached.
