Russian War Correspondent Killed, Four Journalists Injured in Ukrainian Drone Strike in Donetsk Region
A Russian war correspondent was killed and four other media workers injured in a Ukrainian drone strike on Saturday in the Donetsk region, according to Russia’s RIA Novosti news agency. The incident occurred on the Donetsk-Gorlovka highway, where a kamikaze drone struck a car carrying Russian journalists. Alexander Martemyanov, a stringer for the Russian newspaper Izvestia, was killed in the attack. RIA Novosti correspondent Maxim Romanenko, one of the injured, described the moments before the strike, stating, “After filming the aftermath of the shelling in Gorlovka, we were returning to Donetsk. On the highway, a kamikaze drone struck our car.” Denis Pushilin, the head of the Donetsk region, confirmed that all the injured journalists are receiving medical treatment. In response to the attack, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova condemned the assault on journalists, asserting that those responsible would face “deserved and inevitable punishment.”
