At least eight civilians were killed and 53 others injured in artillery shelling by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Sudan’s capital Khartoum and El Fasher city in North Darfur State on Saturday. According to the Health Ministry of Khartoum State, RSF forces continued their systematic shelling in the Karari locality in Omdurman and Sharq Alneel (East Nile) locality, north and east of Khartoum, resulting in the deaths of four civilians and injuries to 43 others. The injured were transferred to hospitals in Omdurman and Sharq Alneel for medical treatment.

In addition to the casualties in Khartoum, the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) reported that four civilians were killed and 10 others injured in shelling by the RSF on residential areas in El Fasher on Friday. The RSF has not yet commented on these incidents.

This attack follows similar deadly shelling in El Fasher earlier in December, when at least 20 civilians were killed and 17 others injured in RSF attacks on two displacement camps. On December 8, a drone dropped bombs on the Qoz Bena school, a camp for displaced people, killing 19 and injuring 16. A subsequent artillery strike on the Abu Shouk displacement camp killed one and injured a child.

Sudan has been embroiled in a devastating conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the RSF since mid-April 2023, resulting in over 29,000 deaths and displacing more than 14 million people. The humanitarian situation continues to worsen as clashes persist across the country.
