Real Madrid’s quest for revenge in the latest “clasico” against Barcelona ended in humiliation as they were defeated 5-2 in the Spanish Super Cup final on Sunday. The loss follows a crushing 4-0 defeat to Barcelona in the Spanish league back in October, continuing Madrid’s struggles against their archrivals.

Kylian Mbappé gave Madrid an early lead in his second clasico, but Barcelona swiftly took control with goals from Lamine Yamal, Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha (who scored twice), and Alejandro Balde. Madrid’s Rodrygo pulled one back after Barcelona goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny was sent off early in the second half, but the damage was already done.

This victory marked Barcelona’s third consecutive win in 2025, following a challenging end to 2024 with two losses. Lewandowski reflected on the team’s improvement, stating, “The Christmas break helped us reflect on what we had done wrong. Now we can look forward to the run of games that we have until the end of the season.”
