Russia Downed Over 7,300 Ukrainian Drones in 2024, Targeting 35 Regions, Reports TASS
Between January 1 and December 31, 2024, Russia’s air defenses successfully downed and intercepted more than 7,300 Ukrainian drones launched by the Kiev regime, according to calculations based on reports from Russia’s Defense Ministry. These drones were primarily used in attempts to conduct terrorist attacks on Russian facilities outside the designated special military operation zone. The drone strikes impacted 35 regions across Russia, highlighting the widespread nature of Ukrainian attacks on Russian territory. One-quarter of these drone assaults were directed at the Belgorod region, which borders Ukraine. According to the Ministry’s figures, 1,896 drones were destroyed in the skies over Belgorod, while the Kursk and Voronezh regions also saw significant drone activity, with 1,206 and 1,170 drones downed, respectively. In addition to drones, Ukraine utilized a variety of other advanced weaponry in its attacks, including small-sized balloons, Neptune anti-ship missiles, US-made Patriot missiles, UK-provided Storm Shadow missiles, Hammer air bombs, and multiple rocket launchers such as Uragan, Grad, Olkha, and Vampire systems. The Tochka-U tactical missile systems were also among the weaponry used in these offensive actions. The ongoing aerial and missile assaults reflect the continued escalation of the conflict and the extensive measures taken by both sides to target military and civilian infrastructure across the region.
