Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated on Wednesday that any peace agreement with Russia would require at least 200,000 European peacekeepers to ensure its implementation. Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Zelensky emphasized the need for a substantial international military presence to secure a potential ceasefire and peace deal, given the vast disparity in military strength between Ukraine and Russia.

Zelensky’s comments come amid growing international attention on the ongoing conflict, with the recent return of US President Donald Trump to the White House raising the possibility of efforts to halt the fighting. Trump has repeatedly pledged to end the war, though he has not specified how he plans to achieve that goal.

At the World Economic Forum, Zelensky underscored the importance of a large foreign contingent to monitor any peace agreement, pointing to the vulnerability of Ukraine’s military forces compared to the Russian military. The proposed deployment of peacekeepers would be critical in ensuring stability and safeguarding the terms of any deal to bring an end to the war. As the conflict continues, Zelensky’s call for international support highlights the challenges ahead in seeking a resolution.
