Priya Rai won the Ultra Race UTMB Malaysia title
Nepalese ultra runner Priya Rai has won the title of the Ultra Race UTMB in Malaysia. In the race held in Taiping, Malaysia, Priya clinched the title in the women’s 54 km category, finishing first. She completed the designated distance in 6 hours and 50 minutes. Over a thousand runners participated in the race. The race was temporarily affected due to bad weather. The organizers had to stop the runners at the checkpoint for an hour and a half before allowing them to restart the race. Switzerland’s Rebecca Hormann finished in second place, while South Korea’s Soji Park came in third. Priya mentioned that this was her second time racing in Malaysia and that it was particularly challenging. “This was my second time in Malaysia, and the first time here in Taiping. It was the moist race I have ever experienced,” Priya said. “I was climbing the final stretch with my feet and hands, it was really tough.” Recently, Priya has been showing excellent performances in international trail races.
She expressed her love for running in Malaysia, saying, “I enjoy racing in Malaysia; it has its own natural beauty. I used to run marathons, but I was getting injured. That’s when I decided to switch to trail running, and I never looked back.”
Last September, she won the Asia Trail Masters race in Malaysia. In October, she also finished second in the women’s short race (40 km) at the Asia Pacific Trail Running Championship in South Korea.
