China Hits Back with Tariffs after U.S. Imposes 10% on Chinese Goods

China has responded quickly to the U.S. imposing a 10% tariff on all Chinese goods, announcing its own tariffs on several U.S. products. Starting on February 10, China will add a 15% tariff on coal and liquefied natural gas, and a 10% tariff on crude oil, agricultural machinery, large cars, and pickup trucks.

The Chinese response came minutes after the U.S. tariff went into effect at midnight. This marks a continuation of tensions between the two largest economies in the world, raising fears of a trade war.

China criticized the U.S. move, calling it a violation of World Trade Organization (WTO) rules and damaging to normal trade relations. In addition to tariffs, China also launched an investigation into Google for anti-trust violations and imposed export controls on certain materials used in high-tech products.

Trump had announced the tariff on Chinese goods as part of his efforts to address issues like border security and drug trafficking. Though tariffs on Canada and Mexico were paused after talks, no agreement has been reached with China. Trump is expected to speak with Chinese leader Xi Jinping soon to discuss the matter. China has referred the U.S. tariff actions to the WTO, aiming to protect its rights and interests in global trade.
