Hundreds of protesters in Bangladesh attacked and destroyed buildings connected to ousted former leader Sheikh Hasina on Thursday. The violence erupted just hours after students, using excavators, began demolishing a museum dedicated to her father, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the country’s first president. The museum and Rahman’s former home were set on fire during the student-led revolution last year, which led to the end of Hasina’s 15 years of autocratic rule. Late on Wednesday, six months after Hasina fled to India in a helicopter on August 5, protesters with hammers and metal rods began tearing down the walls of the building in Dhaka. The unrest marks a continuing chapter in the country’s political turmoil.
