Australia Passes Law to Punish Nazi Salute with Minimum One-Year Jail Sentence

Australia’s lawmakers have passed new anti-hate legislation, which includes a minimum one-year jail sentence for performing a Nazi salute. The law was approved on Thursday with support from both the center-left Labor government and the conservative opposition, in response to a recent rise in anti-Semitic attacks.

The legislation comes after police investigations into a disturbing discovery last week, where mining explosives and written threats against Jewish organizations were found in a caravan on the outskirts of Sydney. The new law aims to strengthen efforts to combat hate and promote tolerance in the country.
