Atishi Marlena, the Chief Minister of Delhi, resigned on Sunday after her party, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), suffered a major defeat in the Delhi Assembly elections. She submitted her resignation to Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena at the Raj Niwas. Atishi, 43, had taken over as Chief Minister in September after Arvind Kejriwal resigned. She became the third woman to hold this position in Delhi.

In the elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 47 out of 70 seats, ending AAP’s rule in Delhi, where it had been in power since 2015. AAP only won 22 seats, a sharp decline from its previous 62-seat win. The Congress party failed to win any seats for the third time in a row.

Despite the defeat, Kejriwal accepted the election results and congratulated the BJP. He promised AAP would remain a strong opposition party and continue working for the people.

The election results marked a big victory for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s BJP, signaling growing support for the party in the national capital. Supporters of the BJP celebrated the win, waving flags and chanting slogans outside the party headquarters.
