Trump Signs Executive Order to Boost U.S. Energy Production and Overturn Biden’s Policies
President Donald Trump on Friday signed an executive order to create a National Energy Dominance Council to foster U.S. oil and gas production. The council, to be led by Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, will aim to cut regulations and speed up energy projects. Trump further stated that his administration approved a huge liquefied natural gas (LNG) project in Louisiana that had been stalled under President Biden. The project would export LNG to other countries, increasing the U.S. economy and energy independence. Trump blamed Biden for shutting down offshore oil drilling on the East and West coasts, which he claimed eliminated valuable resources and hurt the nation’s energy balance. He vowed to reverse this, though it might require an act of Congress. Trump’s push to increase fossil fuel production differs from Biden’s climate policy. He also called for the reversal of appliance efficiency rules and the revocation of a waiver to California to implement more stringent air pollution rules. Trump’s moves underscore his emphasis on expanding U.S. energy exports, lowering energy prices, and repealing rules that he believes are hindrances to economic growth.
