EU leaders were assembled in Paris on Monday for an emergency meeting to address an unexpected twist in US policy in the war in Ukraine. Head of the European Union, Ursula von der Leyen, said that Europe’s security has reached a turning point and needs to be addressed urgently. She emphasized that the war in Ukraine is not only affecting Ukraine but the entire region. The meeting came in response to US President Donald Trump’s proposal of initiatives with Russia to end the war, which had raised concerns among European allies.

European leaders, including British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, convened to agree on how to ensure any peace agreement in Ukraine is made lasting. Leaders also discussed raising defense policies. The UK has offered to send peacekeepers if need be. The meeting initiated an ongoing process with the full involvement of all European partners committed to making Europe secure and peaceful.
