Two people have been killed after two small planes collided midair at Marana Regional Airport in Arizona on Wednesday morning. The planes, a Cessna 172S and a Lancair 360 MK II, collided in the air near the airport’s runway 12. The Cessna landed safely, but the Lancair crashed to the ground and caught fire. The US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is probing the accident. The accident comes after a series of other aircraft accidents in the US in recent weeks, including the deadly helicopter and plane collision in Washington DC and accidents in other states. The US aviation industry is now calling for emergency funding to upgrade air traffic control technology and staff.
