Billionaire Elon Musk, who is helping President Trump to downsize government, directed federal employees in September to submit their accomplishments over the last week. Employees were requested in the email to send five bullet points by Monday at 11:59 p.m. or risk being counted as resigned. The deadline caused confusion among many federal agencies like the National Weather Service, the State Department, and the court system.

Some agencies have told workers not to respond, as they go on to verify the legitimacy of the email. Labor unions criticized the order, finding it offensive to federal workers who provide critical services. This comes on top of the Trump administration, with Musk’s help, already having reduced the number of federal workers in some agencies, including Veterans Affairs, Health and Human Services, and the Internal Revenue Service.

Musk, who is famous for his bureaucracy cuts, asserts that wastage in the government is rampant. Certain workers on leave are also not sure of what to do next. Government officials are currently considering the scenario to decide what to do next.
