The Indian government has approved the long-awaited Kedarnath ropeway project, which is going to dramatically cut down travel time for the pilgrims to the sacred shrine. The 12.9-kilometer ropeway is going to replace the 8-9 hour trek or mule ride by cutting down the journey to a mere 36 minutes.

The project, which would cost Rs 4,081.28 crore, will be constructed on a Design, Build, Finance, Operate, and Transfer (DBFOT) basis. After its construction, it would help thousands of pilgrims, who come to Kedarnath annually, in many ways.

The ropeway in Kedarnath is under the government of India’s developmental plan of religious tourism infrastructure. At other Char Dham spots too, such development is planned, which would make pilgrimage to these places easier for the pilgrims.
