US Flight Evacuated Following Engine Blaze at Denver Airport

A flight operated by American Airlines was evacuated at Denver International Airport after a fire broke out on the plane on the runway. The Boeing 737-800 had 172 aboard, including 6 crew, and was redirected at Denver after “engine vibrations” were detected by the crew from Colorado Springs to Dallas.

Flames and smoke were observed near the engine during the plane’s landing, and passengers were evacuated through inflatable slides. No one was hurt, and all passengers were safely escorted out of the aircraft. The FAA has opened an inquiry as to why the fire occurred and put out the fire thereafter.

The accident did not cause delays to other flights at the airport, though footage of the evacuation showed individuals on the wing of the plane, as the air was filled with black smoke. The fire is among a string of recent air accidents that have raised safety questions in North America.
