In a statement issued today, President Joe Biden announced that he had signed a pardon for his son, Hunter Biden. The president reiterated his longstanding pledge to avoid interfering with the Justice Department’s decisions, emphasizing that he has upheld this commitment even as he witnessed what he described as the “selective and unfair” prosecution of his son.

Biden defended the pardon, arguing that Hunter Biden’s charges were unusual in their prosecution. The president pointed out that individuals are rarely brought to trial for felony charges related to firearm form errors, especially when there are no aggravating factors such as using the weapon in a crime, multiple purchases, or straw purchasing. He also noted that people who were late in paying taxes due to serious addictions, but later paid the owed amounts with interest and penalties, are typically given noncriminal resolutions.

This action highlights Biden’s stance on justice and his belief in fairness for his son amidst ongoing legal scrutiny.
