Nirmala Sharma Makes History as First Woman President of Federation of Nepali Journalists

Nirmala Sharma has made history by winning the presidency of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ), becoming the first woman to hold the position in the organization’s 69-year history. Sharma secured 3,973 votes, while her closest rival, Ramesh Bista, received 2,829 votes, giving her a lead of 1,144 votes.

Sharma, who ran as a candidate from a joint panel of the Nepal Press Union and Press Chautari Nepal, is set to take on the leadership role despite some votes from Madhesh Province still being verified. Her victory marks a significant milestone for women in Nepali journalism.
